It's certainly very unusual in international relations for countries to start passing acts in their own country about the conduct of another country in its own country. It is very unusual but the United States has been as the sole superpower and believing itself to be not only the protector of American interests but the protector of world values.

They have taken actions in many countries with sanctions and other forms of activity. At the moment， I think the overall situation is that America is trying to affect China's movement and direction by economic actions. And the situation with Hong Kong is fundamentally an economic action designed to cause problems for China in what it does in Hong Kong.

So we have a tense situation throughout this year at the end of this year and into the whole of next year with the election in the United States. China is part of that election process. Unfortunately it's not the first time China has been caught like this and it will depend very much on what happens in the next 2 3 4 5 weeks as to whether or not President Trump can find a way to remove China as a major issue for the election at the end of the year.

In my experience. I would say that what the United States is trying to do is to get China to back down， so that it does not present a threat to American world power. I think the Americans misunderstand China's plans. China does not set out 40 years ago or this morning， to remove American power. China set out to restore China， as a leading economy of the world， and provide a good life and a good Society for its people.

Now in doing that， many things change in the world because of the size of the Chinese economy and there's not unreasonable for China to do that. But the United States find it difficult to accept change.

It's very difficult to do anything in Hong Kong while there's violence and one must hope that the protestors will pull back and not engage in violence， so the discussion can take place about finding longer-term solutions to the problems within Hong Kong.
